Cotswold’s, Gloucestershire  |  Full time  |  Live out

£30,000 -£35,000 PA

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced Gardener to join an exceptional team on a prestigious private estate in the Cotswolds. We are looking for someone who takes real pride in their work, brings energy and care to every task, and shares our passion and joy for horticulture.

About the gardens

The organically certified estate surrounds a Grade II listed property and includes approximately five acres of ornamental gardens, parkland, woodland and two lakes. There are richly planted borders, lawns and water features alongside fruit trees, a productive kitchen glasshouse and beds. The gardens are regularly featured in editorials and the press for their design and beauty.

This is a lovely place to work, with a supportive team that values collaboration, Trustworthiness and a high attention to detail. The role offers varied, practical gardening through the seasons and the satisfaction of helping to care for a remarkable landscape.

Key responsibilities

·        Carry out detailed plant by plant care of beds and borders, including weeding, planting, pruning, feeding, mulching, deadheading and training climbers.

·        Help care for the kitchen garden, cutting garden, fruit trees and glasshouse, including soil preparation, propagation, watering and seasonal harvesting.

·        Maintain lawns, hedges, paths, garden structures and planted areas to a consistently high standard.

·        Monitor plant health, irrigation and pests, applying appropriate methods in keeping with the estate’s organic approach.

·        Assist with routine woodland and water feature care where trained to do so, and promptly report tree hazards or work requiring a specialist.

·        Use, clean and store tools and garden machinery safely, reporting any repair or replacement needs.

·        Work closely with the Head Gardener and colleagues on seasonal priorities, new planting and preparation of the gardens for family events.

Experience and qualities

·        A minimum Level 2 qualification in horticulture, such as RHS Level 2 or equivalent, is essential.

·        Proven practical gardening experience, sound plant knowledge and excellent plant care skills.

·        A genuine passion for horticulture and the environment, with enthusiasm for continuing to learn.

·        A hardworking, positive and proactive approach, strong attention to detail and pride in finishing work well.

·        The ability to work independently and contribute warmly to a supportive team.

·        Confidence with garden tools and machinery, and the physical ability to undertake outdoor work throughout the year.

·        A full driving licence and experience with estate vehicles or trailers are desirable.

Working pattern and benefits

Full time, 40 hours per week, normally Monday to Friday. Occasional weekend availability may be needed. A competitive salary will reflect experience. Benefits include on site parking, a beautiful working location and a sister company discount.
